The band’s music is heavily influenced by the late 1960s when heavy metal was emerging. Allmusic praised the band’s ability to recreate a particular aspect of this era, describing the band as “celebrating the Summer Of Love’s soul-chilling autumn: a blasted landscape, post-flower power, resembling Altamont’s killing fields, reeking of the Manson Family murders, and, naturally, sounding like a mish-mash of all of the apocalyptic musical forces that converged upon that era.”
The band has been metaphorically described as “the original Alice Cooper band jamming in a cell with early Black Sabbath and the Stooges”. In order to replicate the sound of that era, the band uses vintage instruments and recording equipment.

I4. METAL UNITED WORLDWIDE DAY! Metal United World Wide (MUWW) is a project which brings together metal bands, fans, show organisers, media and other supporters for one big event. The idea is to have metal shows all over the world on the same date identified by the same banner. Everybody can be part and shows are individually organized. The aim is to create a world wide feeling of community as well as attract attention to the performing bands who are predominantly underground bands.
A community project needs community support. The project does not charge participation fees but relies on the support of the metal community. Around 20 show organisers have already agreed to put on a show on 5 May 2018 so far and there are a number of others interested. http://www.metal-united-world-wide.com
Are you a band, show organiser, media representative or other metal institution? Do you already have a show or tour on that date? Do think this is a great project and you would like to get on board? Artist: Monolord

Esben Willems – Drums
Mika Häkki – Bass
Hometown
Gothenburg – Sweeden
Record Label
RidingEasy Records
We’re the exact opposite of a band consisting of members with identical record collections. We come from three fairly different places, but we’re all drawn to dark, heavy, and gritty music. What we do in Monolord is the result of that creative conflict between us – that’s conflict in the word’s positive sense.” Within that push-and-pull of aesthetic, the three-piece found the framework for their sophomore set Vænir.
Throughout all releases, singer and guitarist Thomas lyrically explores the dark core of humanity. “Misanthropy is an ever-present theme in everything we do” Thomas goes on.“The disgust for what humans do to each other and to the planet is constant. Religion, greed, and power madness run through humanity like incurable diseases, which is, consequentially, a constant stream of inspiration for us.”Ultimately, Monolord offers shelter from some of that darkness. “I hope we can be an outlet to the massive and destructive stupidity surrounding us all,” Thomas concludes. “This band is our safety valve. We hope the same goes for our fans.

What’s Nate been listening to?

Artist: Celtic Frost
Notes: Released in 1987. The album is more varied than many of Celtic Frost’s past LPs, with unlikely covers (Wall of Voodoo’s “Mexican Radio”), emotionally charged love songs, the album’s recurring industrial-influenced rhythmic songs of demons and destruction, traditional Frost styled songs about dreams and fear, and a dark, classical piece with female vocals.
The album is vastly different from the band’s previous work and cemented its late 80s avant-garde metal term; it is also a departure from the extreme style found on the band’s previous albums, Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion that Celtic Frost had become known for. However, it does have the recurring symphonic elements found on previous albums. The album has a more classic heavy metal style within the songs with elements of industrial, classical and gothic rock, and even has an industrial/electronic body music (EBM)-inspired rhythm in “One in Their Pride”. It does have a few black metal elements remaining in Warrior’s vocals, though, and some thrash-influenced guitar riffs.
These albums were some of the pivotal LPs for underground metal and introduced a new and more varied sound. Celtic Frost, along with Venom and Bathory were pioneers in the still underground black metal scene, although Celtic Frost were much more experimental with the addition of classical instruments, operatic female vocals and sampling. Celtic Frost was often labeled by critics as avant-garde metal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_Frost
“Into The Pandemonium was the pinnacle of Celtic Frost’s creativity, up to the release of Monotheist. By that time, through our rather manic work, we had attained finally barely a level of musicianship where we could actually realise all of these things. Martin and I brought into Celtic Frost incredibly diverse influences. He, for example, was deeply immersed in the new wave scene of the time -– Bauhaus, Joy Division and Siouxsie And The Banshees – and I came from new wave, but I also came from a jazz and classical background. I loved the ’70s prog bands like Emmerson, Lake & Palmer, early Roxy Music and so on, and on Into The Pandemoniumwe finally felt comfortable enough as musicians to not just have little hints revealing this influences like we did on the previous albums but to actually go full out and write that kind of music. And of course we overstretched ourselves, we went right past our capabilities, but I’m very glad we did this. One can think of the album whatever one wants, and I know it’s a very controversial album for some, but creatively, it was certainly the pinnacle for Celtic Frost until 20 years later.” http://teamrock.com/feature/2017-08-16/every-celtic-frost-album-in-tom-g-warriors-words
